SJSU Votes
SJSU Votes is a nonpartisan voter registration, mobilization, and education and civic engagement initiative, created as a class active-learning project in 2018. It is now housed in the SJSU Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (IPACE) and is managed by SJSU faculty and students. Various political science classes still help to manage SJSU Votes as active-learning class projects. SJSU Votes works with campus and community partners such as Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters, the SJSU Center for Community Learning & Leadership, the California Secretary of State’s office, the SJSU Office of the President, LEAD Filipino, the League of Women Voters, Pi Sigma Alpha Epsilon Iota chapter, Associated Students, the Asian Law Alliance, elected local, state, and national officials’ offices, and many others..
SJSU Votes works on nonpartisan GOTV (get out the vote) projects and other civic engagement projects in the campus and community. It has sponsored or co-sponsored voter workshops, ballot proposition forums, debate watch parties, candidate forums, door-to-door canvassing, and other excellent events.
The signature SJSU Votes event is the SJSU Votes Festival, celebrating National Voter Registration Day. This event is held in the fall semester. SJSU Votes and IPACE are hosting the 5th SJSU Votes Festival on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025 on the SJSU Tower Lawn (South) from 10am-3pm. During this event celebrating National Voter Registration Day, SJSU Votes, IPACE, and multiple campus and community partners will provide nonpartisan information about voter registration, voting, voting rights, and civic engagement opportunities.
