Minor in Chemistry for CHE majors

As a CHE major, you are required to complete several CHEM courses.
If you meet the other requirements, such as how many units are taken at SJSU, you will need to take only two more units to satisfy requirements for getting a minor in Chemistry.

The courses you will be taking are (units in parenthesis)

  • General Chemistry: CHEM 1A (5), CHEM 1B (5)
  • Organic Chemistry: CHEM 112A (3), CHEM 112B (3), CHEM 113A (2)
  • Upper division: CHEM elective (CHEM 130A/135/161A) (3-4)

You will need to take a minimum of only two more units.

  • One of them must be 1-unit Chemical Safety Seminar: CHEM 120S.
  • For 1-unit final requirement, you can take either CHEM 170A (currently, spring semester only) or any other CHEM course on the approved list that you meet the prerequisities for.

You must apply by October 1 in the Fall Semester or March 1 in the Spring semester in order to get approved for a Chemistry Minor.  It is in your interest to apply at least two semesters before you graduate so you have time to make up any requirements needed.
